Yeah, the usual thing -- computer locked up during synch, had to kill Emplode, now it does the Checking Media thing every time I try anther synch. With two 80GB drives, this is rather time consuming.

I did the manual fix as described in the FAQ:

ro
umount /dev/hda4
umount /dev/hdc4
swapon /swapfile
fsck -fay /
fsck -fay /dev/hda4
fsck -fay /dev/hdc4
swapoff /swapfile
sync

but it apparently failed with an error message. I have attached the Hyperterminal log.

I rebooted the empeg, it started up normally, I started Emplode, and it started up normally so I figured I was home free. But when I did a synch, it did the "Checking Disc Integrity" thing for about 90 minutes before successfully completing the operation. That's where I am now, Emplode is still up and connected, and I don't want to shut it down in case there is something I should do while it is still running.

What should my next step be?

swapon /swapfile
not "swapon swapfile"; the missing "/" did you in there.

Oh, picky, picky, picky! Why can't my computer do what I want it to do instead of what I tell it to do? smile

I re-ran the process (this time with all the commands spelled correctly) and it almost was completely successful.

When I did my Emplode synchronization, everything went normally right up to the end, in the "Restarting Player" phase. It hung there, with Emplode saying "Waiting". I still had hyperterminal running, and it showed "Fan Controller Error" (I have the optional fan installed in my player), which is something I see occasionally on the player's display. I am going to assume that this was a one-time glitch that stopped Emplode (ignorance is bliss, right?) and pretend that everything is all right now. Hopefully the next time I synchronize with Emplode I won't find out differently.

Thanks, Peter, for the sharp-eyed help!

Fan Controller Error shouldn't stop it.

I was seeing that on my unit until I changed the resistor values and then mlord changed the timing...

Is it my fan controller you're using?

What version of hiJack are you running?

I didn't know there might be more than one fan controller. You'd have to ask Stu at Eutronix... he's the one who did the fan installation for me.

My version of hiJack is whatever the latest version was as of last week. (It's version 508.)

I won't be doing another synchronization until next week sometime, I guess we'll find out then if all is right with the world.

Yep. Ben I installed one of your controllers for him back in February 2005.

Hope you've got this resolved smile .
